# Quickstart

> Generate your first image from Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor in three steps.

# Quickstart

Use PoYo from a coding agent with the Agent Skill and the PoYo CLI. No MCP setup is needed.

Requirements:

* A PoYo API key. Create one on the [API key page](https://poyo.ai/dashboard/api-key).
* Node.js 20 or later for the CLI. The Skill installer needs Node.js 18 or later.
* Network access to `github.com`. `npx skills add` clones the Skill from GitHub.

**1. Save your API key**

```bash theme={null}
npx -y @poyoapi/cli auth login
```

Paste your API key once. It is stored in the system keyring, or in a local config file if no keyring is available. Then verify it:

```bash theme={null}
npx -y @poyoapi/cli account
```

The output shows your email and credits.

**2. Install the Skill**

Run this in your project directory:

**Claude Code**

```bash theme={null}
npx skills add PoyoAPI/poyo-devtools --skill poyo-ai-models --agent claude-code --yes
```

**Codex**

```bash theme={null}
npx skills add PoyoAPI/poyo-devtools --skill poyo-ai-models --agent codex --yes
```

**Cursor**

```bash theme={null}
npx skills add PoyoAPI/poyo-devtools --skill poyo-ai-models --agent cursor --yes
```

**Other clients**

Omit `--agent` to choose a client interactively:

```bash theme={null}
npx skills add PoyoAPI/poyo-devtools --skill poyo-ai-models
```

Add `--global` to install the Skill for all projects instead of the current one.

**3. Ask the agent**

Restart or reopen the agent so it loads the Skill, then ask in plain language:

```text theme={null}
Use PoYo to generate one image of an orange cat on a windowsill in morning
light. Generate only 1, tell me the model and price first, then give me the
image URL and credits used.
```

For video, also ask the agent to wait until the task finishes and return the video URL.

The agent searches the catalog, checks the model schema and price, submits the task through the CLI, waits for it to finish, and returns the result.

## If something fails

* **Invalid API key after `auth login`:** an existing `POYO_API_KEY` environment variable takes priority over the saved key. Run `npx -y @poyoapi/cli auth status` to see the source, then unset or update the variable.
* **`npx skills add` fails with "Failed to clone":** your network cannot reach `github.com`. Configure a proxy for git and retry.

See [Agent Skill](https://docs.poyo.ai/integrations/skill.md) for how the Skill executes and more troubleshooting. To give your client PoYo tools directly, see [Connect with MCP](https://docs.poyo.ai/integrations/mcp.md).
